Hello again, and welcome to another weekly newsletter. This week it’s all about being social in two senses!
First up, it’s social media.
Most of you will know that I’ve been working as a marketeer for the last few years. Mainly focusing on educating people on how to make the best use of their socials, or so I thought!
In reality, I was encouraging people to be braver or get over their fear a lot of the time. So it’s a subtle but significant shift. So much so that this is where I am moving towards in one part of my business. But that is for another day!
I wanted to share this today because I’ve just read The Flock newsletter from Jen. It struck a chord. Social media was supposed to be fun, but we spend our entire lives as business owners being a prisoner in our feeds. It’s not healthy.
So this week, I’d encourage you to think about how you feel about social media? Is it enhancing your business, or is it just making you stressed? There is a fine line!
Hold on to that thought, and we’ll come back to it in a couple of weeks!
Social engagements
I make no secret that since lockdown, I’ve become a bit of a hermit. I rarely go out these days. The most excitement I get in the week is a trip to the local supermarket to get food. Not what my life used to be like!
This week I was wedded to my desk all week, but I did have one, very much needed, appointment in the diary. The OEC networking event!
The Organised Entrepreneurs Club, run by my accountant Caroline and our great friend Helen, is a private group of their clients where we support each other in our businesses. We meet up regularly and do all manner of things. Including a twice-yearly retreat! More on that next week.
Friday, we met up. It was the first time I’d left the house since Monday night! I enjoyed my time with the gang. There is always so much positive support and chatter; it lights me up.
I am sharing this because we all need to make time for some human contact. The last couple of years has been hard on us. We’re pack animals, and we need that engagement with others.
So my tip? Make sure you get at least one event a week where you engage with others in your diary. It could just be a chat over a coffee or a walk in the fresh air. It will do you a power of good!
That’s all for this week. Stay safe, and as ever, be excellent to each other!
