So this week would typically start with an apology, but I am not doing that!
The last couple of weeks has been minus a newsletter, which is perfectly fine. I have been busy! However, there were reasons for the lack of apology which I’ll explain in a bit!
Sorry
So last weekend, I was on retreat with the fantastic Caroline and Helen, and in the very last session, we talked about being sorry.
Sorry is perhaps one of the most used words ever for British people. We’re sorry for the weather, sorry for the coffee, and we’re even sorry for existing!
Helen quite rightly pointed out this needs to stop!
She reasoned that by being sorry all the time, we’re watering down when we ARE sorry.
I get this.
So this is why I am not sorry for missing two weeks of writing. Because when I really need to be sorry, would you believe me?
So what’s the alternative?
The alternative is thanking people. Thank them for being patient. Thank them for putting up with you being a pain in the arse; the sentiment is so much kinder on both of you than being sorry.
How sorry are you?
So I want you to think about how many times you’re sorry in a day.
Does this crop up in nearly every exchange you have? I know people where it is nearly every sentence!
So your challenge for this week is to pay attention to when you use sorry as a filler. Or do deflect from something you’ve done.
I’ve been doing this, and I’ve cut down on my usage. I am now saying it when I really do need to be sorry!
Let me know how you get on.
Be excellent to each other as always…
